Cultural orientation gaps may influence patients and their families in their interactions with health professionals, which in turn can adversely impact the delivery of care. Health professionals are urged to understand the role of the family and other sociocultural factors in delivering care as they foster meaningful relationships with their patients.
Purpose: Provide an overview of the importance of family-centered culturally responsive care in the context of Bright Futures.
Objectives: After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Define “family-centered care,” “culturally effective care,” and the “medical home.”
- Explain the benefits of “family-centered care,” “culturally effective care,” and the “medical home.”
- Develop family-centered, culturally responsive strategies in the clinical and community setting.
