Introducing Pediatrics in Practice and Bright Futures

How health is defined and interpreted by health professionals and the children they treat has important implications for children’s health. While this module focuses on oral health promotion, the information presented can be extrapolated and adapted to fit your needs.

Purpose: Introduce the Bright Futures definition of health and how to apply this definition during the office visit.

Objectives: After completing this module, you will be able to:

  • Define Bright Futures and the concept of a “healthy child”
  • Define the Healthy People 2010 initiative
  • Identify Pediatrics in Practice and the six core concepts as integral to the promotion of children’s health
  • Discuss how children's health depends on the health of their families and communities
  • Describe the importance of acknowledging the strengths of the child, family, and community as partners in health
  • Identify the child’s, family’s, and health professional’s concerns or agendas during a health visit

Length: This module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
